All-School Committees: Kristi Larsen

Ms. Larsen will put additional details in the newsflash. All School Event Chairs open are the Art Show and Maplewood Madness Auction Lead.

Game Night: Christi Mullet

Ms. Mullet introduced the All-School Game Night on Thursday March 28th from 6:30-8. Ms. Mullet shared they were looking for a community event, which didn’t require money, food or volunteer hours. There will be no food, so eat beforehand. Bring a game. It will be located in the commons and the gym will open up if necessary. Ms. Mullet reminded that if children are done playing games or need to move around, then it will be time to go. Mr. Jourdan appreciated Ms. Mullet for putting the event together.

ASB Announcements: Students

ASB shared we are a week into the Food Drive. At this point we are already surpassing our goal of 2000 cans by 20 cans. Non-food items are also being accepted: Diapers, Feminine Products, Paper Towels. ASB continued families to continue to bring in food and non-food items.

Nominating Committee Election: Mr. Jourdan

Mr. Jourdan shared there are four volunteers for the nominating committee and asked if there was anyone who would like to volunteer to be the 5th member. Ryan Allred, Brett Jackson, Vicki Sargent and Larry Blue have volunteered to be on the nominating committee. They need to be elected, so Mr. Jourdan called for a motion to approve Ryan Allred, Brett Jackson, Vicki Sargent and Larry Woo for the nominating committee. Janine Hernandez moved to approved. Jennifer Wilcox seconded the motion. The nominating committee was unanimously approved.

SCHOOLHOUSE REPORT: Michelle Mathis

Ms. Mathis thanked everyone coming and was glad to be back after the snow. Ms. Mathis thanked Ms. Mullet and Ms. Zackey for the leading the community game night.

Ms. Mathis asked the community to check cupboards for box tops for Ms. Peppin’s class. They are submitting another entry by March 14th. Box tops will be accepted after March 14th. Over $200 have been raised and the funds have not been dedicated yet.

Ms. Mathis shared the 3rd graders were competing that evening at Meadowdale for the reading challenge. They read five books and responded to questions. 30 children participated and Ms. Mathis thanked the following people for helping to make this possible: Ms. Peppin, Ms. Morel, Mr. B, Lucia, Janine, Sara, Janine, Richard and Jessica.

Ms. Mathis heard that assemblies might not be showcased enough. Eva Abram recently presented to the children. Eva is a native of New Orleans and she did her graduate work at UW. She is a multi-cultural story teller and she shared folk tales with the children during an assembly.

Ms. Mathis invited us to participate in the family satisfaction survey. This is an opportunity for feedback on how welcoming, culturally responsive, student learning, etc. In previous years we have had a response rate of around 40. We have 305 families, so we would like more families to take this survey. It rolls out the first day of Spring break. It will be in multiple languages and available via email, app and paper and pencil. Ms. Mathis shared your feedback is really important and we want to be transparent about the opinions of people and how we can improve.

Ms. Mathis shared it might not be possible for math teams to participate in an event. Ms. Mathis shared Ms. Lockhart stepped up and said she would host it at Maplewood. Ms. Haines, Mr. Harris and Ms. Mitchell also stepped up to help.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Brian Johnston

Mr. Johnston highlighted pledges. We are behind, because we didn’t have a parent meeting last month. Mr. Johnston apologized for extra emails about pledges. Mr. Johnston didn’t realize how PC Manager worked and that families may receive multiple emails. Chris will send out an email about where you are at in pledges for the year.

Budget Committee is coming up. Mr. Jourdan is getting the budget committee set. It is an important committee. The kickoff was supposed to be April 18th, but that is during the Art Show, so another date will be selected.

Mr. Johnston shared about a field trip to the Collision of Rhythm and then showed us a video clip of what students experienced.

Parent Education: Stepping in Allyship with Courtney Wooten

Ms. Wooten spoke to the community about Stepping into Allyship from Education and Empathy to Accountability and Action.
